Fall In Monochrom

Who takes black-and-white photos in Fall? Seriously? This guy!

The mountains were spotted with bright yellows and oranges as a small group of us made it out to enjoy some delectable gravel during the peak fall season. Thankfully the mass onslaught of color-seeking motorized vehicles transporting Instagram-crazed individuals was at a relatively low count for the peak we were experiencing and our close proximity to Asheville.

Did I take these photos in color? Yes. Did I finish them in Color? No? Did I use the colors to manipulate the black and whites? Absolutely! I had recently been in Seatle and spent time with a friend, Phil Blair, who spoke about how he manipulated colors from his color files to generate unique monochromatic contrasts. I was, let’s say, inspired and took things into my own hands regarding these images. I love the contrast the luminescence of the yellows and oranges produce. The images almost glow. But then again, some would say I took it too far.
